GLP-1 Support

Weight-inclusive, eating-disorder-informed support for people using GLP-1 medications.

Focused on nourishment, safety, and strengthening your relationship with food.

Weight Inclusive GLP-1 Support

GLP-1 medications can be helpful part of care for many people, however they can also influence appetite and eating patterns in ways that might affect someone’s relationship with food or their body, with or without a history of an eating disorder or disordered eating. For some, these changes feel unfamiliar or unsettling; for others, they can bring up old patterns, fears, or a sense of loss of trust in their body.

We believe that with specialized eating disorder informed care, GLP-1s can be used safely and supportively to address health concerns, reduce food related stress, and support a healthier more balanced relationship with eating.

Our practice specializes in supporting people at this intersection. As diabetes specialists, we are well versed in GLP-1 medications and experienced in supporting patients through their GLP-1 journey. As eating disorder specialists, we understand how to screen for disordered eating, recognize early warning signs of eating disorder emergence or relapse, and adapt care in ways that protect both physical and psychological health. Our GLP-1 nutrition support is grounded in a weight-inclusive, eating-disorder-informed approach that prioritizes nourishment, safety, and overall well-being.

How We Can Help:

We work with people using GLP-1 medications to address the specific challenges these treatments can create, and support clients in developing a stronger, healthier relationship with food.

Support may include guidance around:

  • Appetite changes and relationship with food: strategies for maintaining adequate nourishment, connecting with hunger and fullness cues, and reducing food-related stress.

  • Navigating side effects: tips and nutrition approaches to reduce discomfort and stay nourished.

  • Blood sugar management: aligning nutrition strategies with diabetes care in a flexible, non-restrictive way.

  • Emotional or body image shifts: support for the mental and emotional aspects of changing appetite, food experiences, body cues, and body changes.

  • Medical collaboration: we’ll connect with your doctor to ensure your care is seamless and everyone is on the same page about your treatment plan and goals.

All sessions are collaborative, individualized, and grounded in respect for your relationship with food. We’ll help you achieve adequate nutrition, reduce side effects, and promote long-term health while using GLP-1s in a way that strengthens trust and comfort with eating.

How to Get Started:

  • Schedule a free 15 min consult call with a member of our team! We want to hear more about you and what you need. From there, we can match you with a clinician who will be a good fit, and answer any questions you have.

We’re excited to get to know you and your story.

  • Our first appointment together (75-90 min) is a chance for us to get to know each other better! We’ll take a deep dive into your past and present relationship with food, your body, and your GLP-1 journey. We will explore what type of support you need to meet your goals, answer your questions, and establish a plan for moving forward.

  • Follow up sessions (50 min) are where we’ll do the hard work together. During our follow up sessions, we will reflect on progress, celebrate wins, and unpack struggles to help you move toward a healthier relationship with food, your body, and your health. We will provide you with tools, education, and structure to support you through the inevitable ups and downs of this GLP-1 journey.

The frequency of follow up sessions can vary. Most of our clients benefit from weekly check ins to start, while others meet with us less frequently. Our goal is always to work towards a place of independence, where you need us less and less! As you feel more confident and are making progress, your sessions with us will decrease in frequency.

We will coordinate with you and any other healthcare providers on your team to ensure you are receiving collaborative and comprehensive care.

  • We offer additional support and services that might benefit you such as support groups, meal support, family sessions, educational workshops, and more!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • GLP-1 medications can be helpful for managing diabetes and metabolic health. In weight-inclusive care, the focus remains on overall wellbeing rather than achieving a specific weight.

For someone in eating disorder recovery, GLP-1s should be used carefully and with close support from both medical and mental health providers who understand both ED recovery and GLP-1 medications. GLP-1s may not be recommended depending on your specific situation.

The goal is to support health safely, improve relationship with food, and as part of a broader, individualized care plan.

  • No. While GLP-1 medications were originally developed to help manage diabetes, they are sometimes prescribed for other health conditions as well. The use of GLP-1s should always be individualized and guided by a healthcare provider. People using GLP-1s need careful monitoring to ensure safety, especially if there’s a history of disordered eating or other medical conditions.

  • GLP-1 medications do not directly cause eating disorders. However, because they can affect appetite, change how you experience hunger and fullness, and potentially contribute to weight changes, they may increase risk for disordered eating in people who are already vulnerable or in recovery. That’s why it’s important to use these medications under the guidance of a medical team who is familiar with eating disorders and knowledgeable about GLP-1s. With careful monitoring, open communication, and a focus on overall health, GLP-1s can be used safely as part of an individualized plan.

  • Not at all! You can work with us whether you’re already taking a GLP-1, thinking about starting one, need support coming off of a GLP-1, or just want guidance on diabetes, metabolic health, or eating habits. We tailor our support to your goals and what feels right for you.

  • All sessions are currently held via secure telehealth. This allows us to work with clients in many locations while offering flexible, accessible care.

We can work with clients in many states, depending on licensure. Check out our map to see an up to date list of states we can see clients in.

  • Fees

Initial assessments are 75 minutes and follow up sessions are 50 minutes. Lauren charges $280 for an initial assessment and $230 for follow up sessions, Kelly and Maria charge $210 for initial assessments and $175 for follow up sessions.

    Insurance

We do not currently accept any insurance plans. We encourage all clients to explore their out-of-network benefits within their individual policies. We can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Not sure if you have out of network benefits? No worries! We have a handy script you can use to call your insurance company and get some information! Click here to download the script now!

  • Accessibility is important to us: we offer reduced fees for clients who need it. Please contact us to let us know if you would need a reduced rate fee for sessions and we will do our best to accommodate you, or provide you with referrals to providers who can.
